A city like a dream

Venice is more of a dream than a city. So stood still in time, so decayed and yet great. There are corners without human masses, apart from the Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge, this feeling is even stronger. Here is a picture of the back of the Palazzo Ruzzini seen from Calle Borgolocco.

And a view from the Rialtobrücke to the Grand Canal, the “main street” of Venice

Min Jehann – first verse

Illustration of a Poem by Klaus Groth

Plattdeutsch original

Ik wull, wi weern noch kleen, Jehann, do weer de Welt so grot!
Wi seten op den Steen, Jehann, weest noch? bi Nawers Sot.
An Heben seil de stille Maan, wi segen, wa he leep,
un snacken, wa de Himmel hoch un wa de Sot wil deep.

I wish I were still small, Johann. Since the world was so great.
We sat on the stone Johann, do you remember – at the neighbor’s pond.
In the sky float the silent moon, we said, “What he runs!”
And talking, the sky was high, and was the pond so deep!
